Price Waterhouse Coopers ranked Madrid 3rd on its investment list of twenty eight European cities in 2015. London came tenth and Zurich 25th. Now, as investment increases in the capital the benefits are being felt in the coastal towns and seaside resorts. The property market is picking up and prices are starting to see modest increases.  More investment is in coming from abroad and helping to pick up the slack in the market left by the crash in 2008. With a very strong tourist rental market creating high returns and high demand for safer, long term lets in seaside towns and resorts many people are looking to invest in Spain as a safe yet promising investment for 2017.

There are many good reasons to invest in Spain.

Building has started again on the coast, with some excellent new developments going up for the first time since 2008. For many, the best investments lie in exclusive new developments of nine or ten houses with excellent features just a short distance from the coast.  For the price of a beachfront apartment, you can pick up a brand new villa with a pool! For others, the sea air and beach views are a valuable commodity.   On the seafront, supply is limited, both of space and new developments, making them very sought after investments. The high demand to supply ratio on the front line mean higher initial costs yet promising returns and a safer investment.  There is a lot of beautiful coast in Spain, but they’re not making any more of it!

1. Low Prices

After the 2008 recession, refer to here as “la Crisis” Spanish real estate took a significant tumble.  According to many indicators however, that fall is now over.  Property price increases are apparent in big cities like Madrid and Barcelona and that trend is now starting to spill over into coastal towns and seaside resorts.

Spain has experience modest economic recovery since 2013, increasing year on year.  And despite an uncertain political landscape has enjoyed stable growth of 0.8% during that last four quarters. Spain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. 2014 saw 65 million holiday makers descend upon Spain whilst investment in the hospitality industry was estimated at over €1 billion for the same year.

Whilst other markets such as Germany and the UK are already reaching maximum levels, Spain still has plenty of room for increases in both rentals and sales.  This puts it in an ideal position for investors.

5. Undervalued housing

According to the Organisation for Economic Development (OECD), Spanish property can be as much as 26% undervalued.  This is largely due to current oversupply, however demand is still very high in the most sought after locations.

6. Value for money

You get a lot of bang for your buck in Spain.  Food, transport, housing, and services are all very reasonably priced.  Also, good for business, labour in Spain is 25 % cheaper than in the rest of the Eurozone.

7. Excellent geographical location

The door to Africa and the Americas, and gateway to the Mediterranean. Spain is in a very privileged location. It’s also a member of the EU.  In a globalized economy, geographical location plays an important role in business. At this level, Spain is one of the best places in the world to invest.

8. Quality of life

Spain is consistently rated by foreign residents as having the best quality of life in Europe. Aside from the weather.  Spain has one of the best healthcare systems in the world, a rich cultural history, great food and over 8000km of coast and great beaches.
